She looked back

She looked back when she heard the scream. There were two and a half men standing a few meters behind her. The half man looked like he was melting. What he was melting! The two other men started melting too. Where the men use to be standing there was now a hole. In a few seconds the hole was five meters wide. There were shouts and moans coming from the hole. She edged toward the hole slowly. At first all she saw was red, then she saw strange shapes. It looked like there were people trying to climb out of the red hole, except they were very tall, had shark like teeth and it looked like their skin was rotting. 

She ran she didn't know what else to do. Of course, she thought this is what they were talking about. On the news they were talking about it being the end. Was this really what an Apocalypse was like, the movies were nothing like it. After about five minutes of running she stopped to catch her breath. She looked around at her surroundings, it was a part of the city she had never been to. There were tall shabby office buildings to her right and to her left were hotels and a few shops. There was a loud thud on the ground near her, She looked to where the sound came from. A body was laying on the ground, from where she was standing it looked like there was dent in the persons face with blood and bones coming out. She looked for a place to hide, she found an ally with big boxes in it she jumped into a box and turned it upside down. There was a small hole in the box which she could see out of. One of the shark mouthed creatures walked past but stopped a meter away from where the  girl was hiding. It stared straight at the box she was hiding in then slowly walked off. After what seemed like ages she carefully so not to make any sound got out of the box. She peered out of the ally it was all clear. There was no point in staying there so she decided to walk around the streets to see if she recognized any of it. 

After a while she came to another hole except it was blue instead of red.  She looked around and saw human entrails splattered along the street. There was a tree house  near by with a ladder hanging down, so she decided to climb up and stay there for a while. It felt pretty safe, she was quite that none of the creatures could get up there. After a few minutes siting in the tree house her eyelids started to feel heavy, and she fell asleep. She woke and slowly stood up, there was a weird scraping sound, Then two clawed hands burst through the floor making splinters fly everywhere, and now there was a large hole in the floor. One of the creatures pulled itself  up and out of the hole. It walked over to where the girl was standing, it starred at her with dark blue eyes. Then it slammed her against the wall with one big shove. The girl felt the side of her head, blood was pouring out as she fell to the ground. She looked up as the creature jabbed his clawed hand into her chest and ripped out her heart and started chewing it slowly. That was the last thing she saw before she died.

Week 5

Kia ora whanau,

My apologies for the lack of a Week Four update. I was curled up in bed for the week with a horrendous double ear infection and the children had Pip Day teaching them for the week. I am on the mend now so fingers crossed this week is a healthier one!

We have had a very busy past four weeks, starting and finishing new topics and now trying to start a fresh bunch. I cannot believe it is already Week 5! Time flies when you’re having fun :)

This week we are starting three new learning areas:

Reading - we are beginning a new novel study with the Room 12 students guiding the Room 13 through the Literature Circle cycle. The children are excited to start this again and it thrills me to hear that they enjoyed the Novel studies last term. The books will not be coming home at this stage, the children will be doing the majority of their reading and activities at school but we will resort to taking them home towards the end of the term if need be.

Writing - we are also beginning our speeches unit which the children will be given the task to write an independent speech around our Resilience Topic. I have attached the criteria for the Inter schools Speech Competition if your child is interested in entering. This competition is not compulsory but your child may be interested in linking their resilience topic to one of the competitions themes and entering.

Topic - we are starting a new web based researched programme around Resilience which Teressa has put together. This work will be useful for speech writing.

This week there is also the Rock da House evening on Wednesday night which will be great fun!

Home learning is based around summarising this week. The children are to go online to complete an interactive activity and then complete the summarising activity that is on their home learning sheet. If your child is not able to get onto the computer at home please let me know as I can find time for them to come in a work on it at school to ensure they are up go date.

There are a lot of bugs and yucky things going around at the moment so I hope that you are all keeping well. Please do let me know if your child will be sick for a longer than expected period of time so that I can accommodate for this and set tasks that they could be doing at home.

Week Three

Kia ora koutou,

Thank you to all of those who came in for Room 12’s assembly on Friday. The children did incredibly well as they were given the task of organising everything themselves with minimal help from me. I think they did an exceptional job and I am very proud of them all! Was great to see the whole school getting involved in their activities.

I would also like to thank you all for coming in for student led conferences. The students were all able to express what they are proud of from terms 1 and 2 and what they are working towards in the upcoming terms. It was nice to see the children taking ownership of their learning and acknowledging what they have achieved.

Coming up this week we are starting our resilience topic off with a movie, we are continuing our ICT reading unit and are all continuing on with their creative writing tasks about ‘how lucky we are’. I am intrigued to see what the kids come up with. If you would ever like to come in and have a look at their books or have your children bring them home, you are more than welcome to as long as they come back in time for the next reading/writing lesson.

Looking forward to the rest of the term:
- Next week we are starting our Novel Study and the children will each be given a novel that they are to read, study and write about for the rest of the term. Room 12 did this in Term 2 and it is now our turn to share our learning with Room 13. The children really enjoyed their books last term so I’m hoping to get the same result this term.

- We also have speeches coming up towards the end of the term. I would like everyone to attempt to participate in this, even just within the class. It is a great time for children to build their confidence which everyone in our class is definitely developing.


Thank you all again for taking the time to come in and meet with me, I appreciate it very much. The term is flying so I am excited to see what we can produce as a class in the upcoming 6.5 weeks.

Matariki

This term our schools topic is matariki. In our class we have made pictures of star constellations with black paper, tin foil, chalk, string and PVA glue. We looked at pictures of different star constellations then we chose one to print off. If there were 10 main stars we would make 10 small balls of tin foil. On the black paper with chalk we drew little dots where the stars (tin foil) would go. In between the stars we ruled a straight line with the chalk. With the glue we stuck the tin foil stars to the dots on the black paper. If we wanted to we could put some glue over the chalk lines in between the stars and put string over them. we stapled them to a wall in the classroom. Below the star constellations the teacher stapled black paper to the wall. 

With a craft knife we cut square shapes into a piece of cardboard, about thirty centimeters to fifty centimeters tall to make them look like windows. Some of the pieces of cardboard  had points at the top of them some of them were; tall, short, wide or thin. Not right under but about eighty centimeters below the star constellations we stapled them along the bottom of the wall on top of the black paper.

Half of the class used pastels to make a sunset in between the cardboard and the constellations. We used brown, red, orange, yellow, pink, cream and white. At the bottom of the wall just above the cardboard buildings we smudged or blended brown and red. When the red and orange joined we drew a big orange circle, from the left and right side of the circle we drew a yellow "v" that goes toward constellations. We coloured in the orange circle orange, we also coloured inside the "v" yellow. Above the brown and red we coloured orange and yellow and smudged them together. Then above the orange and yellow there was some white, cream, pink, orange and yellow smeared together. Then above that we smeared together white, pink and cream. On the sides we blended in brown. Thats how we made our matariki.

Term 3 Week 2

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and have enjoyed this amazing sunshine we are having!

Room 12 has a very jam packed week ahead. On the Friday of this week we are running the school assembly. I have put the responsibility of organising the assembly onto the kids so I am very excited to see what they come up with! We would be delighted if you could all come along on Friday to watch, assemblies normally start around 2pm but I can confirm the time closer to the date.

I hope that you all received your children’s reports on Friday. Please can these come back to school tomorrow (Monday) as I would like to have them handy for the three-way conferences on Tuesday and Wednesday. I would really like for all parents to come in and see what your children have been doing over the past two terms. They will be leading the interviews so it is a good opportunity for you to see what they are capable of. It is also a great time to clarify any things in their reports that you may be unsure of. The sign up for interviews is on www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and our school code is J78RP. If you are unable to make it during the times that are stated, please let me know and I can set up another time that would work better for you.

We had our first week using the Modern Learn Environment to it’s full potential this week and the children responded to it really well. Being able to combine with Room 13 and work collaboratively makes for a lot more variety in the children’s learning but also opportunity for us as teachers to teach to student’s identified needs. We are excited to see what else we can achieve throughout the term.

G.A.T.E math workshop

G.A.T.E stands for Gifted and Talented Education .

Me and Marco as well as Max and Zak from room 13 went to Motueka High School for a math conference/mathex practice. Once we got there we went to the room that the year 8's (Ethan, Dylan, Ellie and Nathan) were going to practice in to discuss what we where going to do. Then we went to Mark's room and split up into groups of three or four and did some 'warm' up most of us aced this here is a question we answered in mathex

Puss and Boots are 2 different cats. Their combined weight is 7.2 kg. Puss weighs 3 times as much as Boots. What is the weight of Puss?

The weight is 1.8kg  for us that was the easiest question so you can probably imagine how hard it was.
